Lesson plan for primary children

Lesson no: 1

Teacher: Leki Om

Subject: Science

Topic: Floating and Sinking

Class: IV

Time: 45 minutes

Teaching Learning Materials: Google Docs, PowerPoint, Video links, images, digital tools, text book

ICT model: SAMR model

Lesson objectives:

By the end of the lesson, each child should be able to;

  1. identify objects that sink and float,

  2. explain the factors that determine whether an object will float or sink, and

  3. conduct floating and sinking experiments on their own correctly.

Lesson Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Start with a discussion about floating and sinking. Ask students questions like, "What does it mean for something to float?" and "What factors do you think determine whether something sinks or float?"
  • Show a short video explaining floating and sinking using a projector or interactive whiteboard.

Lesson development (35 minutes)

  • Information input (10 minutes)

  • Explain to students what is floating and sinking.

  • Explain to students that if an object is denser than water it will sink when placed in water, and if it is less dense than water it will float.

  • Explain to them about the concept of density of liquid.

  • Activity 1 (10 minutes)

  • Divide the students into small groups.

  • Provide each group with a set of objects and a large container filled with water.

  • Instruct students to predict whether each object will float or sink, and then test their predictions by placing the objects in the water.

  • Students should record their observations on the worksheet.

  • After that, project this game on the wall (https://www.baamboozle.com/game/393006) and let the students predict whether the items will sink or float with reason.

  • Activity 2(10 minutes)

  • Have students work in groups of 4 students and provide them with tablets or computers.

  • Direct students to an online game where they can experiment with objects and water virtually.

  • Remind students to keep a record of their score of prediction.

  • Follow up activities (5 minutes)

  • Ask students to write a reflection of one paragraph reflecting on their learning and how their understanding of floating and sinking has evolved throughout the lesson.

Lesson closure(5 minutes)

  • Summarize the key concepts learned during the lesson and revisit the objectives.

  • Encourage students to share what they have learned.
